BECAK, Traditional Transport Using Human Power

‘BECAK’ shaped like a bicycle, but have three wheels, two in front and one behind. Passengers sitting in the front with space for two people only, with heat shield on the top. Becak drivers will ride with the swinging foot on the pedal at the rear wheels, like riding a bicycle and not use the machine. With two passengers, the driver will rely on physical strength. So the Becak is a traditional means of transportation using human power.

Becak contain elements of culture as well and still survive as a vehicle used in many cities in Indonesia, especially a small city or village. In Yogyakarta (Central Java) is still maintained for transportation equipment. If you come to Indonesia, please try to get around town with your mate, just fun, and not expensive.

My friend is a painter, he makes paintings about Becak. I met him in an exhibition of paintings. I respect him for choosing paintings with the theme Becak, which is the traditional means of transport and also contains elements of Indonesian culture. As a sense of appreciation to my friend, I want to show his work at the site, just to share with you about Becak. And I think that's good Becak painting as a collection, especially for collectors of paintings.
